WILLIAM EAKIN

William Eakin has been a central figure in the Winnipeg art scene since the 1970’s. He has also been an increadibly active collector of ephemera from the 1950’s through the 1970’s which illustrate North America’s obsession with optimism that waned after the election of Ronald Reagan. Amongst his collections are thousands of ‘peel apart’ Polaroids that he scans and manipulates digitally, so his enlargements are improved versions of the original regardless of whether he has cleaned or aged the photographic image.

William Eakin’s series of ‘Colville Coins’ was a centre-piece display at the AGO and National Gallery survey exhibitions of Alex Colville.
